Thursday 15th January 2015

At last 2 good news stories:  1. One of our footballers who suffered a horrendous accident on the field and was expected to be wheel chair driven  for the rest of his days has stood on his own legs.  He is now quite sure that he will walk again.

2. A young married man holidaying at Broadbeach Gold Coiast Queensland lost his wedding ring in the surf.  Although thinking it was lost forever he called in help with some men with metal detectors  and on the last sweep about to give up  THERE WAS THE RING

Isn't it great to hear something cheerful instead of all the sadness we are forever hearing around us?
Bridge today and although my partner and self thought we had failed miserably we managed to come 3rd.  Not too bad.

Wednesday:    Weather cloudy but not raining and quite cool with nice sea breeze.  Been busy with Corporate work but managed some cooking.  Paper still full of sadness and trying very hard to find a good feel story will have to keep looking.

Here is another of Great Grandmothers recipies, this time for Fruit chutney:  Take 4 lbs of apples, 3lbs of tomatoes 1lb of pears, 4lb of brown sugar;tablespoon of treacle 1 1/2 tablespoons ofcloves, the same quantity of ground ginger, all spice, whole pepper, one tablespoon of mace 1/4 teaspoon of of cayenne pepper, 3/4 lb of raisins and 2 quarts of vinegar. Peel and core apples, peel and slice the tomatoes and also pears and stone and cut the raisins.Put all together and boil until correct consistency.

The kitchen and cook must have been busy making all these chutneys etc as there are around 15 different recipes for all sorts of fruit.

A friend sent me this blog of songs of the 60's and I have been enjoying them.  Here is the blog.

Bridge tomorrow, hope we do better than yesterday!  Had an enjoyable day but play was shocking, don't seem to be able to win at the present time.  Tomorrow is another day however.

All for now  Anne

Monday 12th January 2015

Rain, rain and more rain coming but been quite a pleasant day so far.  Have been looking at some old recipe books from my family and found this recipe in a book which belonged to my
Great Grandmother, yes Great Grandmother.  There were 10 children a cook, a housemaid and a Yardman who looked after the horses and yard.  Well I guess they needed large recipies but today it seems unbelievable.  Here is the recipe which caught my eye.

Meat Loaf,  Use veal, beef or chicken,

4 cup chopped meat, 4 cups soup stock, 4 tablespoon gelatine 1 cup cold water, 1/2 onion finely chopped and handful parsley.  (No mention of salt or pepper but perhaps like me she just put into to taste)

I have decided to relate GOOD NEWS STORIES only from now on.  Don't you all get tired of all the sad sad news in the papers and on the Television.  Each day I will comb through the papers looking for these stories. So here goes!

A french friend of mine commented on yesterdays march : ." All the boulevards and streets around  the place de la nation and the  Republique were absolutely crowded on a long distance without to be abble to move. All sort of people, young, old, black, blanc, beur, bourgeois or more simple, all  happy as I was to feel themselves to belong a country they could be proud about. In some way I could have cried so moving it was! And everybody calm, nice, funny, patient and HAPPY to be here, where they feel they had to be."

Out of evil people strong and proud, great isn't it:

Also in our paper an article about all the rain around the country but a great photo of two lovely girls, french tourists enjoying the sunshine and 30C temperature at Port Melbourne beach.

Now a smile, the Federal opposition leader came to Queensland to help the State opposition leader and they met in shopping Centre and posed for a Happy Snap.  Unfortunately someone did not realise that they were snapped in front of The Reject Shop.

Well all for now.  or perhaps one more, I received an email from two of my favourite people who have been away on holidays.  They are back home and relate that they had a fantastic time.
